Heritage restoration grant program

Since 2011, the City of Montreal Heritage Grant Program has provided grant funds for eligible heritage conservation work to owners of properties that are designated in the urban plan. In 2020, this program has been relaunched!

The program is now accessible to all citizens and organizations that meet the eligibility criteria, until funds run out. This program can finance between 30 to 60% of eligible expenses, depending on the nature of the work and the type of building. Grants would not exceed a maximum of $ 1,000,000.

Property qualifications:

To qualify for this grant program, you must meet the following criteria’s :

The properties must:

  • Be built before 1975
  • Be designated in the urban plan or located in a sector designated in the urban plan
  • Be subject to regulatory measures aimed at its conservation
  • Present an architectural or historical interest and contribute to the vitality of the sector

The restoration must target one of the following exterior elements:

  • The coating of a sloping, mansard or mansard roof (excluding asphalt shingles), including its decorative elements such as a dormer, woodwork, a bell tower or a weather vane
  • A cornice visible from the public domain
  • A masonry crown visible from the public domain with decorative elements such as an ornate flashing, a set of brick or stone
  • A projection visible from the public domain, in particular a balcony, a porch, a gallery, a staircase, a railing and their decorative elements, such as woodwork and ironwork
