This new measure covers commercial establishments subject to the Act respecting hours and days of admission to commercial establishments (CQLR, chapter H-2.1):
The reception capacity must comply with the following ratio
Employees are not included in the number of persons authorized. Moreover, this reception capacity must be clearly, visibly displayed. To this end, a printable sign is available for the operators of commercial establishments
If the reception capacity is not respected, according to the ratio, the establishment will be exposed to penalties from $1000 to $6000 or even to a closure of the facilities.
The operators are responsible for taking all necessary measures in their establishments pertaining to waiting lines that might form to promote compliance by customers and staff with health recommendations : 2m of physical distancing between individuals and the use of face coverings. Customers failing to comply with these measures may also incur a violation report.
Authorities and CNESST inspectors could step up their visit to establishments to ensure compliance with the new health measures.
We invite you to be even more vigilant on busiest days such as Boxing Day. We remind you that Health Public Service has the power to close an establishment that will not respect, several times, these measures.
