It’s official: workers are returning downtown to the face-to-face meetings and outings so many have missed. What’s more, over 150 conferences have already been confirmed for this summer, so there will be no shortage of opportunities to get together. Whether it’s for a gathering of work colleagues, a corporate happy hour or a simple outing with friends, there are a variety of establishments in the downtown area to welcome you. Throughout the summer season, we’ll be introducing interesting spaces and venues, but for this first kick-off, here are four that are sure to impress!

Henri: a French brasserie with three distinctly and elegant rooms

Located in the internationally renowned Birks Building, Brasserie Henri offers modern, timeless cuisine inspired by the traditions of the great French brasseries.

Did you know that this gourmet venue also has three rooms available to rent? Perfect for team-building activities, private meetings or elegant cocktail parties, Henri Brasserie Française has the Phillips Room, the Birks Room, and the Henri Bar and Lounge.

Ideal for large-scale business meetings, the Phillips Room is fully equipped to meet your most demanding audiovisual requirements. The more intimate Birks Room is designed for meetings between colleagues. Finally, the Henri Bar and Lounge is one of the most spacious rental spaces in downtown Montreal. Its eclectic mix of historic and modern architecture, atmospheric lighting, thoughtful furnishings, and extensive wine and cocktail selection have made it famous.

With so many options, this is a great spot to surprise your friends, colleagues, clients or management.

L’esplanade Tranquille: two sunny, welcoming spots in the Quartier des spectacles

Located in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles, this new multigenerational public building is warm and intimate no matter the season. In addition to a welcoming terrace that gives onto a performance space and winter skating rink, there is also a food court, a green roof and even a self-service library!

The esplanade Tranquille offers two areas designed to comfortably accommodate everyone under one roof, whether alone or in a group: Le Repaire and the Grand Salon.

Le Repaire is a soothing living space with modular furniture and large tables where you’ll feel right at home eating, drinking, relaxing or taking part in the various activities on offer.

On the first floor, the Grand Salon’s cozy atmosphere and central fireplace encourage connection and the sharing of ideas. It’s the perfect place to hold a brainstorming session!

Founded in 2018, Kin Experience offers functional coworking spaces but has also expanded its service to include events. It now offers two types of rental spaces and has four rooms dedicated to events all of which, without exception, can include a powerful stereo system, a private bar, a high-speed wifi connection, a DJ, projectors, television screens, professional lights, smoke machines and more!

The event spaces, named Carnegie, OTH, Sainte-Catherine, and Sous-Sol MTL, can accommodate between 50 and 200 people. Keep them in mind for your next surprise party or to invite your favourite DJ!

This sumptuous and charming venue that hosts jazz, soul, R&B, disco, and blues musicians is the perfect setting for one of the funkiest and liveliest cabarets in the city. A mix of New York’s crackling energy and the refinement of Paris, Le Balcon’s charming atmosphere is resolutely Montreal!

Located in the Saint-James church on Sainte-Catherine Street West, just a few steps from the Quartier des spectacles, Le Balcon has built its name on its colourful dinner-and-show formula. Though the venue had to close its doors during the pandemic, the owners seized the opportunity to greatly improve the customer experience by adding a removable bar and benches on the floor. In addition to the usual church pews, the unusual setup gives the place an undeniable charm.

As for the food, the gourmet table d’hôte is generous and uses local produce, while also including delicious options for those who avoid meat or gluten. And let’s not forget the church pulpit that has been beautifully transformed into a DJ booth on the mezzanine! For a unique and festive evening with colleagues, loved ones, or friends, Le Balcon’s dinner shows are a must.

As you can see, downtown Montreal is full of legendary and memorable space and venues of all kinds.
