This year we had a major challenge: to move the parade, for the first time in 69 years, from Sainte-Catherine Street to boulevard René-Lévesque. Challenge met: the public was there and the backdrop, with its emblematic buildings, was magnificient!
More than 400 000 persons, from all over Québec, came to Montreal downtown to attend to the Santa Claus Parade’s 69e edition, which has become an essential activity for families! Around 11 am, floats began to march on Guy Street to end its journey on Saint-Urbain Street, a few hours later.
Children got to meet many of their favorite characters, such as Ari Cui Cui and the famous Arthur L’Aventurier. Others floats were also popular to adults, including Cirque du Soleil’s performances and Christmas carols by Brigitte Boisjoli, Christian Marc Gendron and Yoan. Of course, the highlight of the show was the Star Fairy, by Vanessa Pilon, followed by the Santa Claus’s sleigh.
The children who were in the Destination centre-ville’s stands were able to receive a reusable snack bag from the Quebec company Minishack, filled with treats. Hot beverages were also served to warm up the crowd. Fortunelaty, the temperature was pleasant, with a mercury oscillating between 0 and 2 degrees Celsius.
With these 17 allegorical floats which have trolled in downtown, we can say that the festivities of the holiday season have indeed begun! To review the highlights of the parade, stay tuned for reruns on the TVA network and Yoopa channel.
